When is not making a decision a decision? Mark Zuckerberg will not make a decision about fact checking Trump’s tweets on Facebook. He believes that this action is being neutral, not interfering with free speech. It’s not true. The interpretation would be that what is said in the tweet is acceptable. President Trump called Mark Zuckerberg to congratulate him on his decision.
In 2016, Mark let the Russians and Trump send disinformation and lies through Facebook. At that time, I was angry because Mark was interfering with the election by printing Trump’s lies. Today we have the facts to prove that Russia, aided by Trump’s election committee, interfered and helped get him elected. Facebook, not fact checking to give the subscribers the truth, enabled Trump’s victory.
Today Mark Zuckerberg is doing the same thing, not fact checking what is being sent through Facebook. Facebook states that they strive for accuracy and fairness. Inaction, not fact checking, is contrary to fairness and accuracy. It is permitting lies and misinformation to spread. It portrays Zuckerberg and therefore Facebook as Trump supporters.
Actions repeated!!
When someone says nothing, it doesn’t mean nothing is said. No action doesn’t indicate impartiality or neutrality. Depending upon the circumstance, it indicates something. In the case of Facebook, Zuckerberg shows he is in the Trump camp like the syncophant Republican Senators. Trump’s congratulatory call!
Honest social media should be impartial and print the facts. If people are to believe things they read on Facebook, the facts must be true. Being fair is showing both sides; not changing what Trump says but adding what is correct. It doesn’t mean you’re Trump’s enemy. Only he believes that people are either with him or against him.
Mark has two daughters. I wonder if he wants them to live under the dictatorship of Adolph Trump. Mark now has the freedom to make the choice to fact check or not. When will he realize that in a dictatorship he loses his freedom to print or say what is true?
Maybe he’ll leave the country with his family rather than live under Adolph Trump. Not sure where? Can’t go to China or Russia. No better. How long will it take for Mark to realize the folly of his actions? Will it be too late?
